CA DocuFilm is an international festival. It is open to new and pro documentary film makers. They compete for variety of awards. Hollywood elite and the industry peers attend.

But – CA DocuFilm is different!

  1. It is an International Exchange: The festival believes in international interaction between Americans and filmmakers, artists, and businessmen from around the world.
  2. It involves the youth: The festival gives opportunities to students and new film makers, allowing them to meet with Industry veterans. It is a place – “Dare to Dream.”

icons_logoInspiration for the ICONS AWARDS comes from the ICONS themselves.

Awards poster-kid-from-the-rockICONS of Hollywood and the world are part of the “ICONS in their own words with Daphne Barak” documentary series. They make up the basis for these awards.  Currently, Andrea Bocelli, Kid Rock, Shimon Peres, Robert DeNiro, Kathleen Turner, Sheryl Crow, Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones, Dr. Henry Kissinger, and Kennedy and Mandela family members are part of it. Some of them are scheduled to attend this premier year celebrations.Awards poster-shimon-peres

Not all the ICONS associated with this series are listed here. There are more than 100 iconic figures associated with the Daphne Barak library. Most of them are invited to this festival. CA DocuFilm will unveil number of them every year. In some cases, their docs will be screened, in some others they will be there in person.

Four  full length “ICONS in their own words” documentaries will feature in 2016. They are: “Citizen Shimon” (Fri, Dec 9), “Maestro at Home” (Sat, Dec 10), “The Kid from Detroit” (Sun, Dec 11), and “America’sSon: JFK Jr” (Thu, Dec 8).

Awards poster-andrea-bocelli20 minute-long SHORT docs will also be released. They will cover current issues.

BEST DRAMA and BEST SHORT are the two main categories.

Best Director, Best Producer, and Best Editor also receive awards.

poster-jrkThe producers of the ten award winning documentaries are to be inducted into the ICONS CLUB.

There is a special award for local submissions. Santa Rosa Academy (SRA) and Mt. San Jacinto College (MSJC) students are recipients. Their campuses are the festival grounds. Their students are selected as interns. Other schools can also compete for this award. A “Short” doc is sufficient to enter.

Awards Ceremony will take place at SRA in Menifee, CA. 2017 will be the first year of full competition.

INAUGURAL YEAR - 2016 Submissions are accepted until Nov. 10, 2016. (Extended until November 30,2016). Filmmakers are notified on November 30, 2016.
